Digging out the old

Posted by cottonmillthreadworks on Saturday, January 1st, 2011

Some projects languish unfinished for years. This was one of mine - the plan was to blanket stitch by hand around all the fused flowers. Once I had decided that, I stitched a few blocks and then immediately filed them away. I already knew what they would look like. Years passed. But finally in 2010 I unearthed the blocks, "unsewed" the hand stitching, and then started working with my machine, using a few new-to-me decorative stitches and Brytes 30 wt. polyester thread.

This was fun! The blocks were coming to life with thread and stitch, instead of lying forgotten in a closet. One thing lead to another and the blocks actually got sewn together into a top. Because my machine quilting has been neglected for quite some time this is now my current project. Getting back into the quilting saddle.

King Tut is being used in the top, with So Fine in the bobbin. The stitch in the ditch to stabilize the blocks was done with Bottom Line. It's okay to use a variety of threads in one project! And it's okay to let some of our projects mature for a while.
