Procrastination

Instead of tackling my list of 187 things that need to be done before heading off to Europe at the end of June I decided to go through my seldom-used "blue" drawer and clean sweep:
Searched through my trusty batch of patterns for an easy-peasy one:
With strip sets sewn, I then marked my melon shapes:
Next, I wound Charlotte's Web Fusible thread in the bobbin, and threaded a Titanium Topstitch size 70 needle with MonoPoly invisible thread:
I proceeded to sew just inside the traced line on all my shapes:
And then, using those important skills learned in kindergarten, I carefully cut out all my melons on the traced line:

You can see the fusible thread on the wrong side and the invisible on the right side:

I fused the melons onto the background squares with a hot iron. The fusible thread melts, and the invisible thread pulls off easily since it hasn't formed into a stitch. The block has a nice "hand" since fusible web was not used:

All that remains to be done is some decorative stitching along the edges as the bond is not permanent. I'll have this sample ready for my next Applique Buffet class!
Tomorrow, it's back to that list.....
