What I did on my summer vacation, part 1
Posted by cottonmillthreadworks on Sunday, September 4th, 2011
It all seems so long ago now, but during July I spent my annual month away in Latvia. However, this year was different. I have met a group of like-minded souls - women who love to quilt! This is not a traditional handcraft, but one which has travelled via internet and magazines. Because supplies and fabrics are scarce one needs to expand one's skills. Dyeing is one of them. I had the pleasure of participating in 2 workshops.
For non-Latvians, you need to understand that food is of primary importance even before the workshop begins!
Our hostess Inara had her quilts hanging alongside bunches of birch leaves (which are used in the sauna):
It was the perfect day for sunprinting:

and shibori:
Rinsing out by the pond is more interesting than standing by a sink:
We had a wonderful time, and everyone made lots of beautiful fabrics to add to their collection:
You can enjoy photos of the Latvian Quilting Association's annual show held last month here.
