Machine binding addendum

The second machine bound quilt is now under my belt. Why had I not tried this before? I absolutely
love this method
- not hard to do and great results!
A few notes for those of you who would like to try this method:
Make sure to use a walking/even feed foot when both attaching and stitching the binding. I now cut the binding 2¼" wide - this gives me the slightly narrower look that I prefer. It also makes the binding width on the front almost the same as the binding width on the back.
I set my machine for a stitch length of 3.0. Because I am using
Masterpiece
50 wt. cotton in the top (to match the binding) I use a Topstitch
size 70
or
size 80
needle. If you wanted the stitching to show even less you could use
Bottom Line
60 wt. polyester as your top thread. Could you use
MonoPoly
invisible as your top thread to further minimize the appearance of the stitching? Sure, why not!
And no need to pin or clip the binding prior to stitching on the front. I merely flip it over as I sew.
Here's the back of this latest quilt:
and here's the front:
An early Christmas present for the very happy Kristina!
